Knee Osteoarthritis
Knee osteoarthritis (OA) is a degenerative joint condition characterized by the gradual breakdown of cartilage in the knee; leading to pain, stiffness, swelling and reduced mobility.
It commonly affects older adults but can also develop earlier due to injury, repetitive stress, or excess body weight.
Physiotherapy plays a key role in managing knee osteoarthritis by focusing on strengthening the muscles around the knee, improving joint stability and maintaining range of motion.
Treatment often includes individualized exercise programs, manual therapy, and guidance on activity modification to reduce strain on the joint. Physiotherapists offer guidance on proper movement techniques to help alleviate symptoms and slow disease progression, ultimately improving function and quality of life.
Unfortunately, osteoarthritis of the knee is common. Burlington Physiotherapy has great experience in treating knee OA including post-op total knee replacement.
